Iraq boosts its gas reserves by trialing the Najaf storage facility.
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Monday the start of trial operations at the Najaf gas depot, with a storage capacity of 3,000 cubic meters, in a move aimed at strengthening strategic reserves and developing the system for transporting, storing and distributing liquid gas. Dailynews reports
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, said during his supervision of the start of the trial operation, according to an official statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the establishment of the warehouse comes within the Ministry’s plans to increase production and storage capacities, and to develop the system for transporting, storing and distributing liquid gas.
He added that the warehouse entering the trial operation phase enhances the flexibility of the supply system and contributes to securing the needs of the central governorates and a number of other governorates for liquid gas.
He explained that transporting liquefied gas to the depot via pipelines, instead of tanker trucks, will enhance safety requirements and ensure the stability of the production and service sites, indicating that the technical procedures for the full operation of the depot will be completed in the coming days.
For his part, the Director General of the General Company for Gas Filling and Services, Anmar Ali Hussein, confirmed that the warehouse was completed through the efforts of the company’s staff and the competent technical authorities, and that the trial operation was successfully carried out in accordance with the approved technical and operational requirements.
He added that the project represents an addition to the system for storing and processing liquefied gas, by raising the efficiency of transportation and distribution operations and enhancing the stability of supplies, noting that the company continues to implement new warehouse projects in the governorates to increase storage capacities and meet the growing demand for liquefied gas.
