The head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, affirmed on Tuesday that Iraq is moving towards a project of complete and comprehensive sovereignty and a phase of building a capable state. Sheikh Hamoudi’s media office stated in a statement that “the head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, received the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Alybrus Kutrashev, on the occasion of the end of his term. The ambassador praised the patriotic spirit of His Eminence the Sheikh, his keenness to deepen relations, enhance the interests of the two countries, and his political visions that have had a profound impact on the Iraqi state.” Iraqpolitical news
The statement added that “during the meeting, Sheikh Hamoudi expressed his appreciation for Moscow’s positions on regional issues and its support for Iraq in the face of the challenges it has faced,” stressing that “Iraq is moving towards a project of full and comprehensive sovereignty and a phase of building a capable state, calling on Russia to play a greater role in Iraq in terms of security cooperation and economic investment.” It continued that “Sheikh Hamoudi emphasized that Iraq will not abandon anyone who stood with it and is keen to have them at the forefront of its foreign relations priorities,” noting that “the common interests of countries are a factor in promoting stability and peace.”
In contrast, Kotrashev affirmed that “through his years of service in Iraq during different periods, Iraq has witnessed a clear developmental change that has been reflected in the standard of living of its citizens, praising the strength of its people’s resilience in the face of the security threats they have been exposed to,” expressing “his confidence in the will of the Iraqis to overcome the challenges and create a bright future.”
