“To Give The Kurds A Chance To Agree” .. Parliamentary Favoring The Holding Of The Session To Choose The President Of The Republic Next Week
Information / special… Representative of the State of Law coalition, Muhammad Chihod, suggested, on Tuesday, that a session to choose the president of the republic would be held early next week, while stressing that the postponement of the session came to give an opportunity for the Kurdish parties to agree on one candidate for the post of president.
Chihod said in an interview with the “Information” agency, that “the coordinating framework or the largest parliamentary bloc may submit a request to the parliament presidency to hold a session to pass the President of the Republic,” considering that “the agreement between Al-Yakti and Al-Party on one candidate for the Peace Palace will end the issue of forming the new government.”
He added, “In the event that the presidential election session is not held next Thursday, its date will be at the beginning of next week, in order to give an opportunity to the Kurdish parties; To agree on one candidate for the presidency.
The representative of State of Law explained that “the Kurds if they do not agree on one candidate, then the matter will be in the hands of the members of the House of Representatives, pointing out that there are more than 20 candidates for the presidency of the republic by all Kurdish parties, and one candidate will be voted on.”
According to the Iraqi constitution, the second step, after the vote on choosing the presidency of the parliament, is to vote on the candidate for the presidency, after which the new President of the Republic assigns the candidate of the major parliamentary bloc to form the government and submit it to Parliament for confidence within one month after the assignment.
