Al-Shammari speaks about urgent steps to revive the economy and revitalize the marketsMaysar al-Shammari, a leader in the Hikma Movement, emphasized on Monday the necessity of adopting economic diversification and activating the five pillars of agriculture, industry, technology, investment, and energy. He pointed out that these demands have been raised for years, but require practical steps for implementation.

Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Shammari said, “Iraq needs to diversify its economy and not rely on a single source of revenue by supporting productive sectors, developing industry, agriculture, and technology, attracting investments, and strengthening the energy sector. This will contribute to building an economy more capable of withstanding crises.”

He added that “diversifying oil export sources is an important step to reduce the risks associated with relying on a single route,” noting “the importance of activating export pipelines, including Banias, Ceyhan, and Basra-Aqaba, and working to increase oil exports.” Al-Shammari explained that “implementing these steps would alleviate the burdens on citizens, revitalize markets, stimulate the economy, and enhance the country’s ability to confront economic fluctuations and the repercussions of external crises.”

He pointed out that “the crises witnessed in the region have impacted the economic situation in Iraq, particularly in light of the repercussions of the American war on Iran,” stressing “the importance of expediting the diversification of export outlets and revenue sources to reduce the Iraqi economy’s vulnerability to regional developments.”
