The US military announces the death of one of its soldiers in northern Iraq.

The US military announced on Sunday evening that one of its soldiers had been killed in northern Iraq.

“Two U.S. service members were killed and another is missing in Jordan following an Iranian attack on July 17,” U.S. Central Command said in a statement. “After a thorough search, U.S. military forces located unidentified remains at the site earlier today. The process of examining the remains is ongoing to verify their identity.”

The statement added, “In a separate incident, a U.S. soldier was killed in northern Iraq on July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian single-pilot attack drone that was shot down,” noting that “another soldier sustained minor injuries and is still receiving medical treatment.”
