TIraq welcomes the memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United Stateshe Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Monday the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, while affirming that Iraq will continue to play its customary role in bringing together the views of the countries of the region. The ministry stated in a statement, “We express our welcome for the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America,” stressing “its full support for all efforts aimed at strengthening dialogue and prioritizing diplomatic solutions in addressing crises and conflicts.”

She added that “the Ministry, on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Iraq, extends its congratulations to the governments and peoples of the two friendly countries on this occasion, expressing its hope that this step will contribute to consolidating regional security and stability, and opening new horizons for understanding and cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the peoples of the region.”

The Ministry also affirmed that “Iraq’s principled and unwavering position has always been, and remains, based on rejecting war and adopting dialogue and peaceful means as the only way to resolve disputes. In this context, it followed with interest the course of the negotiations and the efforts that led to this memorandum.” In this regard, the Ministry congratulated “the governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the sisterly State of Qatar for their mediation efforts and support of the negotiation process, which led to the cessation of military operations.”

She explained that “Iraq has suffered greatly from the repercussions of the conflicts and wars that the region has witnessed, which reinforces its firm conviction of the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to prevent escalation and avoid sliding into new confrontations.”

The ministry expressed its hope that “this development will lead to a final end to the state of war,” stressing that “Iraq will continue to make efforts to restore and strengthen its relations with brotherly and friendly countries that have been affected by the repercussions of the recent crisis.”

She also indicated that “the region today needs collective action based on the principles of collective security and joint cooperation, which will ensure the sustainability of stability and security, and achieve the aspirations of its peoples towards development and prosperity,” noting that “in this context, Iraq will continue to play its customary role in bringing together the views of the countries of the region, based on its balanced foreign policy and its constant endeavor to consolidate dialogue and enhance regional understanding.”

The ministry also expressed its “satisfaction with the announcement of the imminent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to normal navigation, given its crucial importance in ensuring the smooth flow of oil and gas to global markets and contributing to the stability of international energy markets.”
