Military Industrialization: Production of medium and light weapons
Baghdad – The Military Industrialization Authority will open this year new lines for the production of light and medium weapons, such as rifles and pistols, in an effort to achieve self-sufficiency and support the national economy.
The head of the authority, Muhammad Al-Daraji, told “Al-Sabah”: “The authority has made unremitting efforts to restore the defense defense industry with its most basic components and to ensure that equipment and light weapons are manufactured locally.”
He pointed out that “the current year will witness successively the installation of production lines specialized in medium and light weapons, such as rifles, pistols and their materiel.”
Al-Darraji indicated that “the aim of opening the lines is to reach a good percentage of self-sufficiency in this aspect and to help the military and security forces to be sufficient with equipment and light weapons locally, which will have a significant impact on the Iraqi economy and national security.”
He explained that “the events that took place after 2003 had a very negative impact on the military production project, after most of the arms factories were systematically and planned for looting.”
Al-Darraji pointed out that “the authority will take over, during the next month, the Hammurabi factory, which has been sabotaged and stolen during the past years, in order to work on rehabilitating it and importing production lines for the manufacture of weapons and materiel from solid sources.”
And he added, “The Hammurabi factory was previously specialized in the manufacture of the pistol known as (Tariq), where we will work on developing and modernizing it under the name (Babylon), noting that” Iraq has great experiences in military manufacturing, and some youth experiences that were appointed in the Ministry of Defense will be used. , by assigning them to the factory due to the lack of job grades.
