Faki said to (Baghdad Today), “The Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) arrived during the meeting held yesterday, Tuesday, in the Dokan resort in Sulaymaniyah, which led to an agreement that included several points.”

Among those points, Faki said, “the two parties agreed to keep the media of the two parties away from spreading tension and stirring up sensitivities between the various parties, and the implementation of the previous administrative agreement between the two parties regarding the partnership in managing the region within the government and parliament was reached.”

He added, “The agreement also included support for the Kurdistan Regional Government, in the face of the Corona crisis and the economic crisis that Kurdistan is going through. It was also agreed to end the tension and the unity of the situation towards Baghdad during the next stage.”

The Kurdish politician added, “Among the other agreements is the unity of the Kurdish position towards the oil agreement, and the position on the election law and the implementation of Article 140 and others.”

Since last April, tension has been prevailing between the two parties, as a result of the Peshmerga’s attempt to enter an area under the control of the “Asayish” forces in the region, in contrast to a security agreement between the two sides, which stipulates that the Peshmerga forces would protect the borders of the region and spread to the governorates of Erbil and Dohuk, while the Asayish would protect the governorate. Sulaymaniyah.

The regional government is made up of several parties, the most prominent of which are the “Kurdistan Democratic Party” (the government heads and has 45 seats in parliament) and the National Union (the parliament presides and has 21 seats).

It is possible that the disagreement between the two main partners in the regional government will impede the work of Parliament and cancel the political agreement between them, especially if the parties allied to the Patriotic Union also suspend their presence in the legislative institution, according to observers of political affairs in Kurdistan.
