Kuwaiti emir congratulates Iraq on defeating ISIS

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad congratulated on Thursday Iraqi government and people for the success of the Iraqi forces to recapture Mosul from ISIS terror group.

The Emir of Kuwait sent two congratulatory messages to Iraqi President Fouad Massoum and Prime Minister Haidar Abadi expressing his sincere congratulations to them and to the government and the people of Iraq on the success of the armed and security forces in retaking Mosul.

He stressed Kuwait’s firm stance in rejecting terrorism in all its forms, solidarity with the international community to combat it and support for the Republic of Iraq in all measures taken to confront terrorist acts aimed at destabilizing its security and stability.

NATO’s Main Focus in Iraq is to Build Capacity to Train Iraqi Forces

The main focus for NATO in Iraq is to build the capacity to train the Iraqi forces, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday. Stoltenberg said in a statement that the purpose of the military operations in Iraq is to deafeat the so-called Islamic State (IS), but despite that, the main focus for NATO is not on the combat operations.

He explained that the most important thing for NATO, since the beginning of the campaign against IS, is to build a capacity for training the Iraqi forces, which would create conditions for stability and peaceful development in the future.

NATO: Our support for Iraq goes beyond the phase of liberating Mosul

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the liberation of the city of Mosul from a staunch terrorist.

“When [Dahsh] is defeated and Mosul is liberated, then we need Iraqi forces capable of creating the right conditions for stability, peace and development,” Stoltenberg told a news conference on Thursday evening after the conclusion of the meeting of NATO defense ministers.

Mosul is the second largest city with a population of 2 million before it fell.

Al – Muthanna denies the issuance of the results of the third average: will be announced after the feast

Oil rises to the highest level in two weeks

Muthanna is preparing for the “Victory Week” celebrations on the daisy

BGG (Dinar Guru) – …This notice was from a June 26th [United Nations] meeting and only lasted 3 minutes and they adopted the resolution…the gist of it was they were gonna retain the funds contained therein until June 30th. At which time all remaining funds will be transferred to the government of Iraq. This unanimously adopted resolution under chapter VII of the United Nations Charter was adopted fully completely and without reservation…they had extended this deadline. This was supposed to have happened a while back. Something that was supposed to have happened didn’t happen and they pushed it back a little bit. They said (and I paraphrase) you should not take this as a bad thing this is a good thing…that we [the UN] supports Iraq in internationalization in every which way or form… [Part 1 of 2]

Mosul has become ISIS-free, say coalition forces

Iraqi military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Rasool announced on Thursday that ISIS extremists’ reign in the country is over.

“Their fictitious state has fallen,” Rasool added.

Three years to the day since ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of the so-called caliphate from the same spot.

On February 19, US-backed Iraqi forces launched a wide scale military operation to oust ISIS terrorists from the right bank of Mosul city, their last major stronghold. Before this, the forces managed to free parts of the left bank of the city.

Some are saying they have been crippled to the point that ISIS is barely recognizable as a “force” or “organization” any more. Either way, I think we’re at a point where we don’t even have to take “ISIS” into serious consideration when speculating on a potential increase in IQD value. We have some big items on the table right now – a vote at the UN, an IMF matter, some Iraqi Parliament meetings that are significant… I think I’d just be clouding the waters if I tried to explain ALL that is on my radar right now, so I’ll suffice it to say this: We are at a potential crossroads right now, and it’s looking GOOD.

Kurdistan continues to increase tourism numbers during Eid holidays

More than 140,000 tourists have visited the Kurdistan Region for the Ramadan holidays, an increase in numbers for the second-straight year, the region’s Tourism Board said in a statement Tuesday. “We are expecting that this number to increase significantly, and hit a record this Eid,” a statement from the board read. It stated the figures are only for four days — Friday until Monday — and that they will release the final figures next week.

It said that the high number of tourists comes as the result of some new tourism projects in different parts of the Region and a marketing strategy targeting more tourists to consider spending their holiday in Kurdistan. It did not give details about the nationality of the tourists, but it is highly expected that the majority come from Iraq’s south and center as they seek cooler temperatures in the summer and the relative safety of the Kurdistan Region. Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, began on Sunday in Kurdistan Region.

According to last year’s figures, two days into the holiday the number of tourists was more than 108,000. Kurdistan Region held the Middle East Tourism Expo 2017 in Erbil in May as part of a long-term government plan to attract vacationers. Authorities said then that they have planned to spend an estimated $100 million in the coming years to revive and develop an industry that is likely to generate jobs and incomes for the heavily oil-dependent nation. According to the tourism board as of May, around 1.6 million holidaymakers visited the region in 2017, 23 percent of whom traveled from regional countries. The end of the fasting month of Ramadan is usually celebrated with a week of holiday festivities in most Muslim nations.

Although the Kurdistan Region attracted thousands of sightseers from neighboring countries, the war with ISIS and the stagnation of the Kurdish economy still deterred a large number of foreign tourists from visiting. In 2015 as the Region went through severe economic crises and internal political turmoil, just 30,000 tourists chose to come to Kurdish destinations in Iraq, according to the board. Some of the tourists come through tourism companies in big groups with week-long programs to visit Kurdistan’s spectacular mountainous areas and waterfalls.

The Kurdish region has put in place a number of strict checkpoints between the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq along with tightened security since the rise of ISIS about three years ago. Nawar Hamid, an Iraqi trip organizer who brought Iraqi tourists to Erbil for the holidays told Rudaw this week that crossing the many checkpoints to Erbil — some imposed by the Kurdish security — was easier this year compared to last year.

Diyala police announce the success of the security plan for Eid al-Fitr

Diyala police chief Jassem al-Saadi announced on Thursday the success of the security plan for Eid al-Fitr, stressing that it included the achievement of a number of security operations and important achievements.

Al-Saadi said in a statement received by Al-Ghad Press that “the security plan that was implemented during the Eid al-Fitr, by more than (20) thousand members was conducted according to our plans and did not record any security violations.”

He pointed out that “the security plan resulted in the arrest of 27 wanted for the elimination of 17 of them terrorists and 10 of them on issues of kidnapping, killing and theft,” noting that “no security violations were recorded throughout the province during the said period thanks to high-level cooperation between the command of operations Tigris and division Fifth and the intelligence and security agencies that supplied us with important and accurate intelligence. ”

Iraqi Forces Liberate Another District in Mosul’s Old City

The Iraqi forces announced on Tuesday the liberation of another district in western Mosul as they continue pushing towards the river bank in the Old City.According to a statement by Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh Operations, the Iraqi forces have recaptured the district of al-Mushahada in Mosul’s Old City from the Islamic State (IS) militants. Earlier the same day, the Iraqi Federal Police also released a statement, saying their forces have dislodged IS insurgents from the Ziwani mosque, located in the area of Bab al-Beid. Up to 350 IS militants are believed to be left in the Old City, using civilians as human shields, the Iraqi military said in previous statements. However, despite the considerably small number of IS insurgents inside the area, more than 50,000 Iraqi civlians remain trapped in the Old City, with a serious lack of food, water and medical supplies.

The Iraqi government backed by the US-led coalition launched an operation against the IS militants in Mosul back in October, 2016. By The beginning of this year, the forces managed to liberate the entire eastern part of the city and focus on the remaining western areas of Mosul. The city is expected to be fully liberated within days, after nearly nine months of fighting. Iraqi forces took the eastern side of Mosul from Islamic State in January, after three months of fighting, before another offensive was launched to retake the western side in February.

How to provide jobs for the unemployed in Iraq after liberation

Re-writing about this subject again after the publication of economic expert Bassem Jamil Antoine important statistics on the construction sector in Iraq. According to Mr. Basim’s estimates, Iraq needs 25 years to solve the housing problem if a strategic plan is put in place to build 250,000 housing units annually, assuming that Iraq’s population growth is 3%.

Q: How many manpower does Iraq need to build 250,000 housing units in Iraq each year? To build a single housing unit, from start to finish and includes licensing and sorting transactions to the point of completion of the construction of the housing unit and considered ready for housing, may need about 10,000 hours, and divide this figure on 8 hours, the time period for the working day in Iraq, Completion of the construction of a housing unit from start to finish is 1250 days, assuming that there is one factor to build this housing unit, which is unreasonable.

What does 875,000 workers mean to Iraq? Means that the number of people Iraq needs directly to build 250,000 housing units, which includes the staff of the Tabu and sorting, employees of the Secretariat of the capital who grant construction permit, map engineers, construction workers, water delivery workers, sewage workers, pigters and workers of electrical installations. However, this figure is not a final figure for the construction of 250,000 housing units, but there will be a large number of other workers involved in the construction of this number of housing units, but indirectly.

U.N. goes stealth to help rebuild ISIS-ravaged Iraq

U.S.-backed Iraqi forces are close to tearing the city of Mosul out of ISIS’ stranglehold. Once they do, the sprawling city will join dozens of other towns and villages that need to be rebuilt virtually from the ground up.

A vast swath of northern Iraq is reeling from violence and destruction that has forced almost 900,000 people to flee their homes in the last year alone.

Efforts to bring those Iraqis back home are robust — and unique; the United Nations has more than 800 stabilization efforts underway across the country — work the U.N. has done in many countries following many conflicts. But this time, the work is aimed at building confidence in local governance as much as it is at rebuilding Iraq’s shattered infrastructure.

U.N. equipment and supplies are not stamped with the instantly-recognizable blue globe insignia, and local Iraqi contractors are carrying out the work in the name of the Iraqi government, rather than foreign contractors. The U.N.’s new strategy is designed to minimize the promotion of its own work, and to instead quietly facilitate a “for the country, by the country” reconstruction.

“The Iraqis coming home don’t necessarily know that it is the U.N. that is helping them. They see that the government cares for them and the government is doing things for them,” Lise Grande, Deputy Special Representative of the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq, tells CBS News. “That helps to reinforce a sense of confidence in the government; as citizens, they need to know that the government is for them.”

Rebuilding and reviving ISIS-destroyed towns means wires running along dusty neighborhood roads, connecting small, efficient electrical grids to homes to bring back electricity. It means temporary piping to give residents water to bathe and cook upon their return. The makeshift, temporary nature of the repairs means many liberated Iraqi towns look a little messy, but it is a mess in the name of vitality, not destruction.

The efforts are deliberately scrappy because speed is a priority. The day that Ramadi was liberated the UN brought in 71 mobile grids. They were operational in 2 hours. Each was able to connect to 250 home each meant a large portion of the city had power immediately. The idea is simple: if there is power and water displaced families are more likely to come home. Once they are home, the desolate towns begin social revival.

The small stabilization power grids won’t be the long-term fix. But setup is fast and they do not require the high-in-demand inputs like cement. While they are working to light up homes, efforts to repair the larger power grid gets underway.

Grande has been on the ground for two and a half years and she is in constant contact with all members of the Iraqi government across the country to push forward and get effective stabilization efforts up and running. She has been on the ground for the UN in India, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Veterans of wars in the Middle East view this overall approach positively. They note that the stabilization efforts in Afghanistan followed a very top-down approach, which proved to be a failure.

“If you are going to have success in Iraq people have to see a reason to have faith in the central government. Whatever happens in the UN name is never going to deal with sectarian, tribal and ethnic tensions,” says Anthony Cordesman, a former U.S. government advisor who is now an analyst for the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. He sees the current U.N. strategy as a means of building trust in the central government of Iraq, increasing hopes for long-term stability.

U.N. workers on the ground say Iraqis themselves are ready to go to work once they get home. In many cases, they have spent their life’s savings just staying alive; moving to safe areas and finding food and shelter for their families. That means when they can return home, they want to be part of what Grande calls the “renaissance.”
She says the locals are eager to help, especially when the faces leading the charge are familiar to them. This year in Fallujah, a local businessman working with the U.N. started to hire widows who had no other source of income to help build a new secondary school. He knew the local market and the local people — innate insights that a large multinational company or organization would have been without. It was a brave move; women in the workforce is still a taboo topic to many Iraqis.

There have been failures with a handful of local contractors, but the minute they violate the terms and conditions of working with the U.N., they are cut off.

Grande says there is no slowing down. Last month it took just 10 days for the U.N. to add 200 stabilization projects in Eastern Mosul. In Fallujah the main water station has been completed and is now bringing safe water to more than 60 percent of the city. The effort took months to complete, “not years,” Grande points out.

Despite an expedient stabilization effort, daily fears of not being able to support the huge number of displaced Iraqis haunt on-the-ground efforts. As the final push for Mosul rages, the number of Iraqis fleeing the city is on the rise every day.

The U.N. relief effort has just barely been able to handle the 6,000 to 8,000 civilians fleeing Mosul daily. The displaced are met at 19 camps on the outskirts of the city. But there are still more than 100,000 Iraqis trapped inside the Old City, where ISIS holds about a square mile of ground, and money is urgently needed to keep up with the demand.

“If very large numbers of people come out (of central Mosul) all at once, we would struggle to cope. Every single day I worry this is the day that 30,000 people will come at once,” says Grande. “We are just one step ahead.”

The cabinet approves the draft supplementary budget law for 2017 and votes on decisions that are mostly economic

Iraq’s oil exports in June near May level, oil minister says

Iraq’s oil exports from fields owned by the central government in Baghdad are at around 3.27 million barrels per day (bpd) so far in June, about the same level as in May, Oil Minister Jabar al-Luaibi said on Thursday.

Total exports for all fields in Iraq, those of Baghdad and the Kurdish region in the north, have averaged 3.8 million bpd so far in June, he told Reuters in the southern oil city of Basra. The country as a whole is producing about 4.315 million bpd, he said.

Kurdish exports are running at about 520,000 to 530,000 bpd so far this month, he said.

Iraq is in “quiet negotiations” with foreign oil companies operating in Iraq to amend their services contract, he said, declining to give more details.

The country wants to change the terms of the contracts it deems no longer in its favor after oil prices collapsed three years ago, when they were in excess of $100 per barrel, to about $45 per barrel now.

Oil prices should start recovering by the end of July, to reach $54 to $56 a barrel by the end of the year, Luaibi said.

Iraq is the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ second oil producer, after Saudi Arabia. The group in May rolled over an agreement to cut oil production with other exporting nations, until March, in order to support oil prices.

“Iraq supports the agreement that we reached; if developments happen contrary to OPEC’s interests, the (OPEC) ministers will hold an extraordinary meeting,” he said.
Iraq will continue developing its production capacity and will start executing a sea water injection project in its oilfields at the end of the year, even without an agreement with Exxon (XOM.N), he said.

“We are now in talks with Exxon Mobil, if we don’t reach an agreement, we have other options,” he said.

UN says Mosul fully liberated from ISIS imminently

Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, said that Mosul would be declared fully liberated within a few time, according to press reports.

In a statement, Mr. Kubiš said the Iraqi forces are fighting fiercely against ISIS terrorists in the terror group’s last strongholds in Mosul”.

Mr. Kubiš has extended his warmest greetings and wishes for peace and prosperity to the Iraqi people in general and Muslims in particular on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“What makes the advent of the Eid this year more promising is the imminent demise of ISIS and the triumph of Iraq over their so-called Caliphate. Most areas of Mosul have been liberated and the terrorists are being hunted down in their last few remaining pockets, their days numbered,” he said.

The SRSG saluted the sacrifices Iraqis of all backgrounds have made in the fight against terrorism.

But he stressed on the necessity of protecting besieged civilians.

“We remain deeply concerned about the civilians who remain trapped by the fighting or held as human shields by the terrorists,” Mr. Kubiš said.

ISIS has taken thousands of civilians in Mosul as human shields.

An offensive code-named ‘We Are Coming, Nineveh’ started on Feb. 19th to recapture the right bank of Mosul.

The offensive is backed by the US-led international coalition.

The Iraqi army announced on Sunday only one percent of Mosul was still under the control of ISIS.

High security measures and cutting roads leading to Tahrir Square in central Baghdad

A security source said on Friday that the security forces began to close some roads leading to Tahrir Square in conjunction with the influx of demonstrators to the scene in central Baghdad.

The source told “Al-Ghad Press” that “the security forces began cutting off some roads leading to Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, to protect demonstrators and prevent the occurrence of security breaches.”

Basra airport management announces the launch of a new air line with Antalya International Airport

The airport manager said that Qatar Airways will increase the number of flights through Basra International Airport starting from the beginning of next month from ten flights a week to 14 flights, adding that the Egyptian airline is expected to travel in the near future between Basra International Airport and Cairo International Airport .

Only 800 meters left to announce victory on ISIS in Mosul – Army

Federal Police Commander Raed Shakir Jawdat said on Monday only 800 meters are left to announce victory against ISIS terrorist group after the army regains all of the Mosul city.

In a press release, the commander added that the forces had entered Farouk street in the Old City district in the right bank of Mosul.

Earlier, Spokesman of the Joint Operations Command Brigadier General Yahya Rasool said that more than 99 percent of Mosul’s right bank has been recaptured from ISIS terrorist group.

This comes as the offensive launched on 19th of February by US-backed Iraqi forces, supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias, to oust ISIS terrorists from Mosul, their last major stronghold in Iraq.

Mosul battle to end in days as troops advance in Old City: Iraqi general

The battle to take full control of Mosul from ISIS will be over in a few days and an attempted fight-back by the militants failed, an Iraqi general told Reuters on Monday.

“Only a small part remains in the city, specifically the Old City,” said Lieutenant General Abdul Ghani al-Assadi, commander of the Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) elite units in Mosul.

“From a military perspective, Daesh is finished,” Assadi said. “It lost its fighting spirit and its balance, we are making calls to them to surrender or die.”

The area now under ISIS control in Mosul, once the militant group’s de facto capital in Iraq, is less than 2 sq kms, the Iraqi military said.

An attempt by ISIS militants late on Sunday to return to neighborhoods outside the Old City failed, Assadi said, adding the city would fall “in very few days, God willing”.

The CTS is leading the fight in the densely populated maze of narrow alleyways of the historic Old City which lies by the western bank of the Tigris river.

A U.S.-led international coalition is providing air and ground support in the eight-month-old offensive.

The militants last week destroyed the historic Grand al-Nuri Mosque and its leaning minaret from which their leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared a caliphate spanning parts of Iraq and Syria three years ago. The mosque’s grounds remain under the militants’ control.

Iraqi troops captured the neighborhood of al-Faruq in the northwestern side of the Old City facing the mosque, the military said on Monday.

PUSHING EAST

Iraqi forces took the eastern side of Mosul from ISIS in January, after 100 days of fighting, and started attacking the western side in February.

Up to 350 militants are estimated by the Iraqi military to be besieged in the Old City, dug in among civilians in crumbling houses and making extensive use of booby traps, suicide bombers and sniper fire to slow down the troops’ advance.

Assadi said Iraqi forces had linked up along al-Faruq, a main street bisecting the Old City, and would start pushing east, toward the river. “It will be the final episode,” he said.

More than 50,000 civilians, about half the Old City’s population, remain trapped behind ISIS lines with little food, water or medicines, according to those who escaped.

Aid organizations say ISIS has stopped many from leaving, using them as human shields. Hundreds of civilians fleeing the Old City have been killed in the past three weeks.

ISIS has carried out sporadic suicide bombings in parts of Mosul using sleeper cells. It launched a wave of such attacks late on Sunday, trying to take control of a district west of the Old City, Hay al-Tanak, and the nearby Yarmuk neighborhood.

Social media carried posts showing black smoke and reports that it came from houses and cars set alight by the militants. Witnesses said residents had fled the two neighborhoods.

Assadi said the attempt to take over the neighborhoods had failed and the militants were now besieged in one or two pockets of Hay al-Tanak. A curfew was in force over western Mosul, a Reuters correspondent reported.

The fall of Mosul would mark the end of the Iraqi half of the “caliphate”, but ISIS remains in control of large areas of both Iraq and Syria.

Baghdadi has left the fighting in Mosul to local commanders and has been assumed to be hiding in the Iraqi-Syrian border area. There has been no confirmation of Russian reports over the past days that he has been killed.

In Syria, the insurgents’ “capital” Raqqa, is nearly encircled by a U.S.-backed, Kurdish-led coalition.

More than 99% of Mosul’s right bank liberated from ISIS

More than 99 percent of Mosul’s right bank has been recaptured from ISIS terrorist group, Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, Spokesman of the Joint Operations Command said on Saturday.

In a statement, Gen. Rasool added that military unites are pushing deep into the Old City, noting that the next few days will witness the full liberation of Mosul city.

Earlier, at least eight civilians were killed in two separate attacks on al-Muthanna popular Market on Friday.

This comes as the operation launched on 19th of February by US-backed Iraqi forces, supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias to oust ISIS terrorists from Iraq.

Abadi: Soon we will announce the complete restoration of Mosul

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said that Saudi officials stressed that the strength of Iraq is in the interest of Riyadh, adding that in a few days we will announce the restoration of Mosul in full.

Iraq PM Haider Abadi says Mosul liberation within few days

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi said on Thursday the Iraqi armed forces would fully liberate Mosul from ISIS terrorists within a few days, The Baghdad Post reported.

Iraqi army, backed by the US-led international coalition, launched on Feb.19th an offensive to recapture Mosul’s right bank from ISIS grip.

Iran-allied IMIS militias are supporting the Iraqi army.

Iraq’s oil exports in June near May level, oil minister says

Kurdish exports are running at about 520,000 to 530,000 bpd so far this month, he said.

Iraq is in “quiet negotiations” with foreign oil companies operating in Iraq to amend their services contract, he said, declining to give more details.

Oil prices should start recovering by the end of July, to reach $54 to $56 a barrel by the end of the year, Luaibi said.

“We are now in talks with Exxon Mobil, if we don’t reach an agreement, we have other options,” he said.

The Iraqi Stock Exchange is suspended for 5 days

The market said in a statement that due to the approaching Eid al-Fitr, the Board of Governors decided not to organize trading sessions for days from June 25 to June 29 to coincide with the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The market said that the first trading session in the Iraqi market for securities will be after the Eid al-Fitr and from Sunday, the second day of August 2014.

The Iraqi market for securities was established in June 2004, and was previously relied on manual trading. In April 2009, electronic trading was partially approved by some companies and electronic trading started for companies registered in 2010. The market is traded in 101 companies belonging to eight sectors Banking, industrial, hotel, tourism, agricultural, investment and insurance, in addition to communications.

Britain: Iraq is restoring its regional, international status

Al-Jabouri said the international community must increase support to Iraq, especially in medical aid as displacement crisis is exacerbating.

Iraqi forces foil IS attempt to retake liberated areas in western Mosul

Iraqi forces repelled on Tuesday an attempt by Islamic State militants to retake areas under security control in western Mosul as forces moved deeper in the group’s last enclave.

A security source told Shafaq News that Iraqi warplanes killed 23 IS members who were trying to sneak into al-Dindan district, south of the Old City, IS’s last enclave in Mosul. The source added that the militants were planning to take over government buildings including the courthouse and the local police department.

Iraqi forces took over Dindan district in March.

Iraqi forces, which invaded the medieval Old City district on Sunday, are primarily eyeing the Nuri al-Kabeer Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed taking over a third of Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Iraqi forces took over eastern Mosul in January and have been sweeping through the western side since mid February.

A few hundred IS fighters are believed to be entrenching in the Old City, seeking protection in the middle of 100.000 civilians who are believed to be used as human shields and shot dead once trying to escape.

It occurred to me that what we are seeing here is a plan to use some of the reserves to reduce the money supply in Iraq. The article makes clear that there is not a corruption problem. However, they are still putting some limits on the exchange (dinars for foreign currency). Furthermore…the CBI is making it clear up front that the banks will not be allowed to take advantage of the public who wish to purchase foreign currency. This means that they will be forced to give the foreign currency at the official rate rather than the market rate. As word of this gets out there will be more and more people who will want to surrender their dinars at that rate, thus saving many dinars by getting the foreign currency below the market rate. Governor of Diyala to British Ambassador: Our doors are open to your companies and investors

The first investment conference was held for the end of July

Grant for the development of Iraqi ports

Economy News _ Baghdad: The Ministry of Transport announced Thursday that it has received a grant from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the rehabilitation and development of ports in the country.

Iraq’s army encircles Islamic State in Mosul’s Old City: military

Iraq’s army said it encircled Islamic State’s stronghold in the Old City of Mosul on Tuesday after taking over an area to the north of the territory.

The army’s 9th armored division seized al-Shifaa district alongside the western bank of the Tigris river, a military statement said.

The fall of Shifaa means the Old City in the eastern half of Mosul is now surrounded by U.S.-backed government forces, deployed north, west, south and across the river.

Iraqi forces foil IS attempt to retake liberated areas in western Mosul

Iraqi forces repelled on Tuesday an attempt by Islamic State militants to retake areas under security control in western Mosul as forces moved deeper in the group’s last enclave.

Iraqi forces took over Dindan district in March.

Iraqi forces took over eastern Mosul in January and have been sweeping through the western side since mid February.

Enorrste Article: “The central bank prepares banks and transfer 25 million per month” Here is my take on this important development. It occurred to me that what we are seeing here is a plan to use some of the reserves to reduce the money supply in Iraq. The article makes clear that there is not a corruption problem. However, they are still putting some limits on the exchange (dinars for foreign currency). Furthermore…the CBI is making it clear up front that the banks will not be allowed to take advantage of the public who wish to purchase foreign currency. This means that they will be forced to give the foreign currency at the official rate rather than the market rate. As word of this gets out there will be more and more people who will want to surrender their dinars at that rate, thus saving many dinars by getting the foreign currency below the market rate. Iraqi gov’t to tender oil bids in Dubai stocks market

The Iraqi government is planning to tender four million barrels from Basra’s crude oil in Dubai energy stock market, a well-informed source said on Tuesday.

This will mark the first oil tender bid for Basra’s crude oil in Dubai’s stock market.

Two shipments, each consisting of two million oil barrels, will be shipped from August 26 to 28.

Governor of Diyala to British Ambassador: Our doors are open to your companies and investors

A statement issued by Al-Tamimi’s office received a copy of the Journal News that the governor briefed the British ambassador on Diyala’s economic, investment and investment opportunities.

While the British ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to provide assistance in the file of reconstruction and investment projects in the whole of Diyala.

Diyala province is witnessing security and economic stability after the liberation of the areas controlled by “Dahesh” during the year 2014.

Turkey offers Iraq reconstruction of Mosul

The spokesman for the Turkish President, Ibrahim Kalin, said that Turkey is ready to help Iraq in the reconstruction of Mosul after the liberation of the militants of the “Isis” terrorist.

“We are ready after the end of the process of liberating Mosul completely to rebuild it in addition to building what is destroyed in other Iraqi cities,” Kalin told a news conference in Ankara.

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi army and security forces in addition to the popular mobilization forces headed by the airlift supported by the US-led coalition aircraft and the Iraqi air force, towards the old neighborhoods in Mosul, the last remaining under the control of the terrorist organization “Isis”.

The remaining neighborhoods under the control of the organization’s militants were announced in the western part of Mosul on May 27, and 180,000 civilians are still trapped in those neighborhoods and used by the organization’s militants as human shields.
According to the Iraqi Operations Command, only 500 terrorists remained in the city.

They are dug in – they know they will die and have NOTHING TO LOSE…this may take just a bit..let’s all just take a breath and let this whole thing play out…and then… I also said – I want to get a feel for what the News Cycles look like after – for a week or two…this will be the tale of the tape. …sit back…and let them do their thing…and BTW – it’s not like they haven’t told us in so many ways – what they intend to do. They have – over and over and over and over.

Election of Iraq to the Governing Council of the International Labor Organization

Trend Press / Baghdad The State Department announced on Thursday that Iraq was elected as an alternate member of the ILO Governing Body for the 2017-2020 term for the West Asian Group.

The statement added that “Iraq has 210 votes out of 253 votes, although the number of votes required on the complex is 127, which makes the second Iraq on his group (ASPAG).”

The Iraqi parliament welcomes the adoption of trade for the first time on two articles of supply from the local product

A member of the House of Representatives Hammam Hamoudi welcomed the adoption by the Ministry of Commerce on the local product in the provision of ration card items of “sugar and edible oil” for the first time since 2003, considering it an important step towards supporting the national product and stopping the external importer.

Hamoudi stressed the need to continue this step and expand it in order to contribute to the advancement of the processing of food “Iraqi” through the factories of the national stalled and the workers sincere and adapted to the needs of the citizen.

Kaperoni (Dinar Guru) […is it better for Iraq to rebuild itself at the present rate or at a re- established rate?] …at this point and time, it does not matter what the exchange rate is regarding rebuilding…since the primary source of revenue is oil sales (95%) which is paid in dollars. And since the dinar is not globally convertible, Iraq pays for goods in dollars. So in that sense they are on the same playing field we are on in the US when we pay for goods. The real benefit comes when the CBI can begin to raise the value to offset inflationary pressure created by investors and investment along with meeting IMF Article VIII compliance. The result will eventually give the citizens a better life, greater purchasing power and most importantly the ability for the CBI to keep its dollars and pay in dinars.

Cabinet votes to release salaries of Nineveh employees

[Asharq Al-Awsat] The Iraqi Council of Ministers voted during its weekly session on Tuesday to release the salaries of Nineveh province employees who have been found not to be linked to the organization.

A statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi and told Ashqaf News that the vote on the release of salaries of employees of the province of Nineveh, who checked security by the security audit team of the Ministry of Interior or by the national security.

The Council also voted to approve the recommendation of the emergency meeting of the Civil Crisis Management Unit concerning the exclusion of the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, Public Works and the Municipality of Baghdad in paragraph (3) of the Council of Ministers Resolution No. 329 of 2015, 2017 for purposes of water purification exclusively.

A position was also presented to prepare the employees who received their salaries in the liberated areas and to prepare those who did not receive their salaries with a statement of reasons.

The Council decided to form an operations room in the Ministry of Finance to resolve the problems that appear when the Ministry of Finance audit of payroll lists and continue its work after the official working hours until the completion of the task in the presence of directors of formations responsible for salaries from ministries whose salaries were delayed in Nineveh province.

The Council of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Health to complete the required numbers for grades (central appointments) and submit them to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Finance to include the required allocations within the supplementary budget for 2017.

A vote was also made on the payment of dues to the truck drivers of the Ministry of Commerce, which contributes to support the security forces.

The vote on funding allocations of the Ministry of Education, and directing the Ministry of Finance to open documentary credit for the purchase of textbooks in the form of financial optimization and depending on the allocations approved by the Ministry.

The Council discussed the treatment of traffic jams in the province of Baghdad and was presented a study at the short, medium and long.

Kaperoni (Dinar Guru) – Artile: “Experts: float the currency needs to be a productive economy and not Rieia (rentier)” Quote: “…to float the currency now in Iraq can not talk about that simple, as needed to advance measures…it could be done if the transformation of the Iraqi economy from a yield to productive…” This is actually a really good article because they state very clearly that under the current conditions they cannot float the dinar…and only once the market economy begins can they do so. So we continue to wait for Iraq to set the stage for investment. Pass the needed laws, get the dinar in compliance with the IMF, etc. to move to Article VIII. Only then will we see the dinar float and rise based on market forces. I am hopeful that yet this year we can see that happen.

One of the big problems needing dealt with – is they have few mechanisms in place to safe guard investors. Why would the IMF care about Iraqi investors. They don’t – this is referring to OUTSIDE investors. Period. Really good news – entering final talks – it appears.

Adam Montana (Dinar Guru) – [What will happen to the other major currencies when the CBI RV’s the IQD/USD exchange rate? The countries using the EUR, the GBP, the CHF, the JPY, and the CNY all have international corporations invested in Iraqi oil with contracts based on today’s exchange rates. How will a radical upward IQD/USD RV (which effectively decreases the value of the USD against the IQD) affect the EUR/USD and the GBP/USD and the CHF/USD and the JPY/USD and the CNY/USD exchange rates? Will these other major global currencies also be devalued and what in your opinion will that do to an already stressed global economy?] This is a great question, because it opens up the floor to discuss how an RV is really a zero-sum game, mostly because we are talking about a fiat currency. When the FED prints more USD, we don’t actually gain that money. It just dilutes the dollar a little bit more. IQD, and an RV of the currency, works the same way, just on a global scale. My opinion is that almost every other currency will take a slight hit, and then rebound once the IQD rate stabilizes, and within about a month all currencies will be back to normal… except the IQD will be dramatically different than it was a month prior.
