IS Resorting to Dreadful Atrocities as Losing Rule in Mosul: PM
Islamic State (IS) militants are carrying out appalling atrocities in their last pocket in western Mosul as they are suffering from major defeats, said Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
The remaining jihadists in Mosul’s Old City, according to Abadi, are also attempting to bring greater distractions to the area.
The prime minister however ensured that the declaration of full victory against the extremist group in Mosul is “imminent”.
Iraqi armed forces, backed by the Kurdish Peshmerga and US-led coalition forces, launched the Mosul assault on 17th of October last year.
Later in January 2017, Baghdad government announced the full liberation of the entire eastern part of Mosul, which was followed by a new phase to dislodge the jihadists from the western half of the city.
Earlier this week, Iraqi army commanders said the majority of the city is now freed, and IS is in control of only 1% of territories in Mosul.
