EU Renews Call for Protection of Civilians in Western Mosul

The European Union (EU) once again called for protection of the Iraqi civilians trapped in the city of Mosul, as the operation for liberating the city from the so-called Islamic State (IS) enters its final stage.

The Union further expressed strong support for the international humanitarian organizations delivering lifesaving aid to the thousands of civilians in Mosul, on Tuesday.

The EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, said in a statement that the protection of the civilians inside Mosul is a necessity more than ever,Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Stylianides further urged the Iraqi authorities and all Iraqi forces to continue working together with the international organizations and make every effort to protect and assist the children, elderly, civilian women and men, unable to flee the active fighting.

In addition, the EU official added that the Union remains fully committed to supporting the Iraqi people and the authorities at this crucial time.
