Security forces 'few meters away' from al-Nouri Mosque: Sources
The Iraqi Counter terrorism Service (CTS) and the 16th Division have advanced toward al-Farouq district, located in the heart of Old City in the right bank of Mosul, a security source told Baghdad Post Wednesday.
He added that CTS is 200 meters away from al-Nouri Mosque.
The Iraqi Federal police have advanced toward the neighborhoods of Bab al-Jadeid and Ras al-Jada, the source continued.
Rapid Response Forces has advanced toward al-Shifa neighborhood as the 9th Armored Division has purged and inspected the restored areas, a private source indicated.
Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City.
It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.
