Iraqi security forces besiege Mostashfa Jomhuri St. in Mosul's Shifaa

Units of Federal Police in in the northern axis of Mosul are besieging Mostashfa Jomhuri St., located in al-Shifaa neighborhood in the city's right bank, Federal Police commander Raed Shaker Jawdat said on Tuesday.

Jawdat noted that the units in the southern axis of Mosul are clearing alleys and houses, advancing towards the set targets in the Old City.

Federal Police's units have killed 27 terrorists, destroyed three booby-trapped bikes and six motorbikes, he added.

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after eight months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City's districts.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.
