UN demanded to investigate Hashimi bodyguard's death, Hashimi
BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: From Istanbul, Iraqi vice-president Tariq al-Hashimi directed a letter to the UN Special Supervisor for Torture Cases demanding an investigation in the death of one of his bodyguards, who was arrested by the Iraqi government few months ago.
Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported that Hashimi, residing now in Turkey, disclosed that two of his bodyguards were killed under torture during the investigation process by Premier Nouri al-Maliki' security forces.
Hashimi, who is under charges of terrorism in Iraq, demanded "quick measures to investigate the site of the crime".
Iraqi judicial system denied that the body guard, Amer al-Battawi, was killed under torture, but died due to illness.
Hashimi is residing in Turkey for the last few days following his visits to Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The visits stirred great criticism by the Iraqi government, which demanded Kurdistan region to hand him over to court.
Hashimi announced that he will stay in Turkey for time being till his case is resolved by the Iraqi three presidencies.
