ERBIL, Jan.15 (AKnews)- Shortly ago senior members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and Kurdistan Islamic Group met in the headquarters of KIG in Erbil.
A source who spoke to AKnews on condition of anonymity said that Nechirvan Barzani, KDP's vice president, Masrur Barzani, a senior KDP leader and Fadhel Mirani, KDP's politburo secretary are now conferring with Ali Bapir KIG's Emir and some members of his party's politburo.
He did not provide further details.
KIG is mediating between the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) and the KDP, led by Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani.
Relations between the KIU, an opposition party, and KDP strained over some recent events in Duhok province. KDP accused KIU of inciting the public to burn hotels, massage parlors, liquor shops while KIU pointed the finger at KDP supporters for burning its offices in Duhok.
A committee found that the mobs were provoked to do violence and that the officials failed to control the situation and prevent violence.
KIU, KIG and Gorran (Change) Movement play opposition in the coalition government of KDP and Kurdistan Patriotic Union, led by Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani.
