Baghdad, KRG and UN discussed the Mosul Humanitarian Response Plan

The KRG Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) organized on Wednesday a high-level joint meeting between KRG, the Iraqi government, and UN-Humanitarian Country Team, to discuss the Mosul Humanitarian Preparedness and Response Strategy, Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for 2017, said KRG Department of Foreign Relations.

After a detailed discussion and assessment of all available options, several decisions were made, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KRG and the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement was signed to ensure a well-coordinated response to the anticipated waves of displacement resulting from the Mosul offensive.

An inclusive process to assess the needs and prioritization of the HRP-2017, and a voluntary, dignified and safe return of the IDPs to the liberated areas was also discussed in the meeting.

During the meeting, the KRG Minister for Foreign Relations urged the donors to act quickly, sufficiently, and effectively in order to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe.

He warned that "KRG is running out of money to sustain its current level of humanitarian support to the IDPs and refugees and its capacity to take in more IDPs is extremely limited.”

The meeting was chaired by the KRG’s Minister of Interior, Karim Sinjari and attended by several ministers from KRG and Baghdad as well as the Humanitarian coordinator and senior representative of the UN-Agencies.
