China sends envoy to Saudi Arabia and Iran to defuse tensions

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Beijing has sent an envoy to Saudi Arabia and Iran to calm rising tensions between them, and called on all parties to exercise restraint.
A spokeswoman for the ministry Chun Hua Ling said that "Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming will visit Saudi Arabia today and then will travel to Iran."
She added: "We hope that the situation in the Middle East is moving towards improvement, and that all parties to remain calm and maintain restraint and resolve all related through dialogue and consultation issues.
