Defense cancels 16 contracts, worth $ 3 billion and $ 424 million on corruption suspicions Thursday, 27 August 2015 09:45
Shafaq News / The Minister of Defense , Khaled al-Obeidi announced the cancellation of a number of different contracts concluded by the ministry,
some of which relate to corruption suspicions, noting that some other contracts have been signed and exceeded one billion and a half billion dollars.
This came as al-Obeid presided the 18Defense Council session which was attended by members of the Defense Council and the directors of weapons and concerned parties, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
Obeidi said during the meeting that the ministry has been able in the past few days and in the context of reviewing different ministry contracts to cancel (16) different contracts valued at three billion and $ 424 million, for various reasons including those related to suspicions of corruption, some were not necessary for the mechanism of army building and the requirements of the battle with regard to the limited resources of the state, while other contracts have been canceled for lack of contractual terms of the proper legal form.
He pointed out that the ministry, has been able after cancelling these contracts from the exploitation of the amount of one billion and 600 million dollars by (36) different contracts , all of them will be used in the perpetuation of the battle requirements against terrorism. Thus, the forces of the ministry were able to save about $ 2 billion in the public treasury for the benefit of the country under the difficult economic living situation.
