ERBIL – The People’s Defense Forces (HPG), the military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s Kirkuk – Ceyhan pipeline attack.
On its official website, the HPG confirms they bombed the oil pipeline, which carries oil from the KRG and Kirkuk to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. In the statement, the HPG lists recent its recent attacks against the Turkish state, including the pipeline bombing on July 29th.
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz reported that the Kirkuk – Ceyhan oil pipeline in the south of Sirnak Province had been bombed on Wednesday.
The Kirkuk – Ceyhan pipeline has an operational capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, although deliveries average 300,000 bpd due to technical failures, attacks and theft by smugglers.
Wednesday’s attack follows an attack on the Turkey-Iran natural gas pipeline in eastern Agri Province on Monday that was blamed on the PKK.
