Al-Maliki heads to Moscow tomorrow.

BAGHDAD / NINA / Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is heading to Moscow tomorrow on an official visit to Russia, heading a senior delegation in response to an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh has announced that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will visit the Republic of the Russian Federation on 8, Oct in a responding to the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dabbagh said in a press statement that al-Maliki will visit Russia on the head of political, economic and military delegation as well as a large number of Iraqi businessmen on 8 to 10 October 2012.

He added: "The visit comes to develop the political, military and economic relations between the two countries and to strengthen them to serve the interests of the peoples of Iraq and Russia.

The prime minister said in a T.V interview that "his visit to Russia aims to revive relations with the Russian Federation and to develop them in the fields of economy and trade, in addition to military cooperation and efforts to complete the Iraqi army necessary equipments."

He added that "there is an attempt to dramatize Iraq's efforts in this direction, but our efforts are limited to the air defense and equipment related to the fight against terrorism," describing the phase experienced by the region as a "complementary stage of relations between states, not hegemony extending influence.
