Special Report of Maliki reveals the government’s failure to find Al-Obeidi

Shafaq News / A close source to the Iraqi government revealed on Wednesday , the latter "failure" from finding the former Defense Minister , Abdul-Qader al-Obeidi referring to its intention to inform the U.S. side to hand over al-Obeidi.

The source, who asked not to be named, said in an interview for "Shafaq News" that "the government report was submitted to Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki this morning that reveals the government's loss of information and evidence that lead to access to former Defense Minister, Abdul-Qader al-Obeidi."

"Maliki has ordered the Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari to expand the search for al-Obeidi and report the U.S. side on the issue".

The sources revealed, mid of last August, for "Shafaq News" ,” the disappearance of the former Defense Minister , Abdul Qader al-Obeidi after traveling to the United States, noting that the Iraqi government has demanded the Iraqi embassy in Washington to investigate the fate of al-Obeidi.

Al-Obeidi had served as the defense minister in the first government of Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki due for not renewing his candidacy for the post again, he was appointed as a security consultant to the Prime Minister.

Obeidi announced recently that he will return to Iraq from Washington immediately after finishing his medical checks and the treatment of his daughter, denying his escape from his prosecution on financial corruption charges.

Supervisory organizations and deputies said that the Ukrainian weapons deal signed by the Ministry of Defense at al-Obeidi period was charged of corruption and was frozen by the government afterward.

The most important files rose along with the Ukrainian weapons contract was the special armament program, as the Integrity Commission says that the ministry has deposited money in two banks, the first profitable and the second to finance the deals.
