US Treasury sanctions 10 Iran-linked personalities

The US Treasury Department announced on Monday sanctions against 10 individuals and entities linked to Iran.

The US Treasury said in a statement that it "imposed sanctions on 10 personalities and entities associated with Iran, on the 40th anniversary of Iran's seizure of the US embassy in Tehran."

She added, "The sanctions list included the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, Mohammad Baqeri, and Defense Minister Hussein Dehghan," noting that "the sanctions list also included Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the Supreme Leader of Iran."

"The sanctions list included the former Iranian parliament speaker, former conservative candidate for the 2013 Iranian elections, Gholam Ali Haddad," the US Treasury said.

The sanctions included "Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, as well as Ibrahim Raisi, for his role in suppressing the Green Revolution and executing prisoners in Iran."

In May 2018, Washington listed Iran's central bank governor personally on the sanctions list.
