Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Baghdad, Iraq, October 24, 2019
Location: Baghdad and other major cities, with the exception of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
Event: According to reports, large-scale demonstrations are expected to take place on Friday, October 25, 2019, beginning after Friday prayers. U.S. citizens may see a heavy police presence. As with prior demonstrations, road closures throughout major cities, including the Baghdad International Zone, are likely.
Actions to Take:
Per the May 2019 travel advisory, do not travel to Iraq
Avoid areas of demonstrations
Comply with directives from authorities
Monitor local media for updates.
