Saleh stressed that "Iraq does not want to turn again into a battleground and a struggle of wills at the expense of the lives of Iraqis and their money, and this depends on the solid national historical institution of the Iraqi army, as a national army rising from politics protects the system and the Constitution and defends the homeland."

The President pointed out that "the Iraqi national security policy, and the foreign policy of Iraq, which is unanimous in the three presidencies and political forces is to be Iraq first, and not to be accepted to turn it into a battleground for others."

For his part, the Minister of Defense thanked the President of the Republic, for his visit to the ministry and his interest in supporting its members, stressing that "the sons of the armed forces renew the Covenant to remain loyal soldiers to defend Iraq."
