Media: International coalition raises alert in Iraq to the maximum degree
Media reported Wednesday (May 15, 2019) that the international coalition forces against Da'ash, raised the alert in Iraq, to the maximum degree, after monitoring threats to US bases in Iraq.
"International coalition forces have raised the alert level in Iraq, to the maximum degree, after they have detected threats against US bases in Iraq, by the remnants of a pro-American organization," Al-Hayat Al-Hayat quoted its correspondent in Iraq, Majid Hamid, as saying.
"Threats have been hovering around the base of al-Assad, another base in Taji, Baghdad, the US embassy in the capital and a number of American locations, including where Iraqi forces are present," she said.
In turn, the correspondent of the same station in Washington, "The Central Command of the US forces is the one who issued this decision."
"There may be attacks by a sympathetic organization, or even by the Iranian threats that Washington is taking into account, there are also concerns from the militias that are cooperating with Iran in Iraq," he said.
"When Americans send a warning like this, it means there is a direct threat, and the US forces must be ready," he said.
He pointed out that "this warning came because of the permanent risks since the emergence of Dahesh, and because Washington considers that there are risks related to the Iranian threats."
He added that "Americans are threatened with killings and kidnappings, and the latter can enter Washington in a difficult situation."
He said, "The Americans have information, saying that there are elements of the preachers want to target US forces and American civilians."
The US website said Sunday (May 12, 2019) that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had issued a clear warning to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi during his visit to Iraq to target US interests inside the country.
