Qatari official: 52% growth of trade with Iraq

The Qatari delegation to Iraq headed by Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, Minister of Trade and Industry, reflects the depth of brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed al-Thani said.

"The visit was successful and achieved its objectives of bringing the business sectors closer together and stressing the need to move forward in developing mutual cooperation and pushing forward trade exchanges," the Qatari newspaper Al-Raya reported in its Monday edition.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim said that the participation of Qatari businessmen and manufacturers in the visit represents an important opportunity to introduce the Qatari industries and promote the Qatari product in Iraq and to create partnerships between Qatari companies and their Iraqi counterparts to establish joint projects that enhance cooperation relations and trade partnership between the two countries.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim said that bilateral trade with Iraq remains below the level of ambitions and potentials of the two brotherly countries, despite the remarkable growth in trade exchange by 52% last year. The value of trade exchange in 2018 amounted to QR 473 million Compared to 310 million riyals in 2017, pointing out that the most important Qatari imports from Iraq are vegetables and fruits and some electrical devices for telephone networks, while the most prominent exports of Qatar to Iraq are oil oils and organic detergents and cement materials and bags for packaging and Chemical Industries (USD = QAR 64.3).

He explained that Qatar Chamber welcomes the Iraqi companies wishing to enter the Qatari market, pointing out that there are about 210 Qatari companies Iraqi joint work currently in the Qatari market.

It is noteworthy that the President of the Qatar Chamber was part of the delegation accompanying the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari during his visit to Iraq.
