Abdul Mahdi, NATO official: Iraqi forces have become more able to protect the country

(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Operations, John Minza, and his accompanying delegation discussed joint cooperation.

“The Iraqi forces have gained a high skill from the experience of the war against terrorism and the defeat of gangs and have become more capable of protecting the country and extending internal security,” a statement from the prime minister’s office said.

He pointed out “the support provided by NATO countries to Iraq and stand with him to overcome the security terrorist challenges,” calling for “to strengthen relations with the mission and NATO countries to enhance the potential of Iraqi forces in the areas of armament and training.”

The two sides discussed “the nature of the forces and the countries participating in them and their preparation, and be of assistance to Iraq and balanced with its local and regional conditions.”

“The NATO mission in Iraq is focused on training Iraqi forces and preparing Iraqi trainers to meet the needs of Iraq in this area, and we are ready to provide the requirements of Iraqi forces and strengthen the partnership,” the NATO deputy secretary general said.
