A mutual invitation between Abdul Mahdi and Putin to visit Iraq and Russia

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced Tuesday that he had exchanged with Russian President Vladimir Putin an invitation to visit Baghdad and Moscow.

"Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi received today the special envoy of the Russian president to the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and his accompanying delegation," the office said in a statement received by the Russian news agency NNA. "Bogdanov conveyed a letter from the Russian president Vladimir Putin and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on strengthening relations between the two countries and congratulations to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, the formation of the government, as well as Russia's support for Iraq in all fields.

"During the meeting, they discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of security, economy, trade, energy, investment, training and other fields, in addition to the situation in the region," he added.

"Russia is keen to deepen relations with Iraq and coordinate in various fields," Bogdanov said during the statement.

"Iraq has an interest in strengthening its relations with Russia," Abdul Mahdi said. "Our foreign policy is to have good relations with all countries and are keen to implement them."

"Iraq is recovering and its role will be greater and more central in the region," he said.

Bogdanov made an invitation from President Putin to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to visit Russia while the latter made an invitation to Putin to visit Iraq.
