U.S. supports formation of new Iraqi gov't: Sullivan

US Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan expressed on Sunday his country's support for the coming Iraqi government.

In a meeting with the designated Prime Minister Adil Abdel Mahdi, the US official reiterated his country's support for Iraq's efforts to form a new government.

The meeting discussed efforts to fight terrorism and reconstruct Iraq, a statement issued by the US embassy in Iraq had said

Sullivan focuses discussions on expanding US-Iraq economic ties and increasing foreign investment to facilitate Iraq's reconstruction.

Al-Halbousi, also received U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Seelman in his office on Sunday.

On behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump, Sullivan congratulated Halbousi on his election as Iraq’s parliamentary speaker, stressing his country’s support to Iraq in all fields, Halbousi’s media office stated in a press statement.

Halbusi also affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries within the strategic framework, as well as cooperation in the economic and investment fields, hailing the U.S. efforts, including the U.S.-led anti-ISIS international coalition, in supporting Iraq in its war against terrorism.
