A record rise in Iraqi oil exports from the southern fields

Reuters) - Exports from southern Iraq are heading towards a record high this month, bolstering signs of OPEC's second-biggest producer commitment to an oversupply agreement and local unrest does not affect shipments, two oil industry sources said on Thursday.

Exports of southern Iraq in the first 19 days of September reached 3.6 million barrels per day (bpd), an increase of 20,000 barrels per day from the 3.58 million barrels per day (bpd) level, according to data from ships collected by the sector.

The increase comes after the June agreement between OPEC and its allied producers to boost supply after they have curbed production since 2017 for a tarnish.

In August, Iraq carried out its second-largest increase in OPEC output as shipments to Iran, which face renewed US sanctions, declined.

A second source in the sector also notes shipments averaging 3.6 million barrels per day (bpd) this month thanks to smooth operations at export ports and unrest in Iraq's second-largest city, Basra.

"There were fears that the protests could reach the port, but so far there is no impact."
