Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz expressed his country’s desire to re-export oil

The Kurdistan Regional Government proposed to the federal government in Baghdad to export oil from the fields of Kirkuk province, disputed between the two sides, to the Turkish port of Ceyhan through the pipeline owned by the region.

And stopped pumping oil from Kirkuk to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, in October last October, when the Iraqi forces seized the fields from the forces of the Kurdistan Region “Peshmerga.” Following the independence referendum.

Prior to that, the region exported up to 250 thousand barrels per day, from Kirkuk fields to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean, through a pipeline to the region.

“The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Mahdi Al-Alaq discussed during his meeting with the Turkish Ambassador in Iraq, Fatih Yildiz, the files of common interest and serving the interests of the two neighboring peoples, stressing the importance of joint relations between Baghdad and Ankara.”

The statement added that “during the meeting, the follow-up of the most important measures taken following the visit of Prime Minister Haider Abadi to Ankara and the possibility of access to a joint mechanism of cooperation between the two sides to serve the interests of the two parties and to strengthen cooperation in energy and economy issues through the expansion of Turkish investment projects in the coming period Especially at the airports of Mosul and Kirkuk and border crossings and resolve the file receivables of Turkish companies. ”

For his part, Yildiz stressed “the depth of the relations between the two countries and the commitment of the Turkish government to the decisions of the Kuwait conference and the importance of the reconstruction of Iraq,”
expressing his country’s desire to “re-export oil from the province of Kirkuk and across the Iraqi border and open a border crossing directly between them and Iraq.”
