The President of the Republic Fuad Masoum stressed on the need to provide the shortage of services in the province of Basra, the southernmost of Iraq, represented by electricity, drinking water and health, while creating job opportunities for the unemployed.

A statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic said on Monday that the infallible yesterday received a delegation of heads of tribes and dignitaries of Basra province headed by Sheikh Abdul Salam al-Maliki and discussed with them the developments of the crisis experienced by the province of Basra recently and ways to address all problems to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of citizens and enhance security and stability and normal life In the province and the whole country as well as stop the escalation of the current crisis and exacerbate the consequences.

The statement added that Masoum stressed during the meeting the need for urgent and sustainable solutions to the basic problems facing the province, stressing the importance of giving the province of Basra and its residents all the attention and care to overcome the current difficulties and accelerate their economic and life development in all fields as well as solving the problems of electricity and water shortage. Which suffers from the people of the province and neighboring areas.

The statement stressed that Masoum stressed the priority to address the phenomenon of unemployment suffered by young people and poor segments of the population through increased rates of permanent and temporary employment, while giving preference to the people of the province to work with oil companies and navigational and seeking to replace Iraqi workers instead of foreigners in all possible areas within the framework of current plans and future studied.

The statement said that Masoum pointed to the need for a permanent solution acceptable to the housing problems and end the suffering of the inhabitants of shantytowns and mud from the deportees and families affected, as well as address the phenomenon of worsening salt tide in the province and address the accumulated debt of Basra and finally.

The President also stressed his readiness to exert every effort to support the interests of the people of Basra, especially in the economic, functional and environmental fields, stressing the utmost importance of strengthening civil peace and strengthening the bonds of society by strengthening the internal front and community cohesion that strengthens law and strengthens the authority of the state and the law. .

The statement concluded by saying that Masoum stressed the need to mobilize all possibilities to prevent the exploitation of the crisis by any people or hostile parties and harness all our capabilities to address the basic problems suffered by citizens and the development of living conditions and service and achieve sustainable development guaranteeing stability and prosperity in Basra and the whole country.

The protests began more than a week ago in the province of Basra, and later spread to other provinces with a Shiite majority in the south of the country, including Muthanna, Maysan, Diwaniyah and Dhi Qar, demanding basic public services such as water, electricity, jobs and fighting corruption.

The government has taken decisions to contain the protests, including the allocation of government jobs and funds, the province of Basra, as well as plans to implement service projects in the short and medium term.
