ERBIL, June 26 (AKnews)- The Sadr Current's call for holding a national conference of political leaders should not be interpreted as a change in their stance for withdrawing confidence from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, said a Kurdish MP.

From his home in Najaf, Sadr Current Leader Muqtada Sadr called on the political leaders to convene for the conference over the political situation.

The call does not mean that the Sadrists offer another alternative to the demand of withdrawing confidence from Maliki, Maha Khalid said.

The Kurdistan Blocs Coalition(KBC) MP added the PM confidence withdrawal issue is now under discussion by the legal committee at the House of Representatives and necessary steps will be taken in accordance to the legal procedures.

"No conference will substitute [the efforts for] withdrawing confidence from the government," Khalil said.

As for the roadmaps that Maliki's State of Law Coalition (SLC) claims will offer to end the political impasse in the country, Khalil said "these are not but efforts to gain time and distract the attention from procedures of withdrawing confidence from the government and interrogating Maliki.

"We no longer believe in reform efforts and doubt any procedures for reform or any roadmaps for settling the crisis in the country in a manner which is satisfactory to the Iraqi people."

While the National Alliance (NA) is persistently calling for a national conference to settle the political differences, three major forces also tirelessly endeavor to bring down Maliki.

After Sadr, Kurdistan's President Massoud Barzani and Iraqiya Leader Ayad Allawi described Maliki as a "dictator", they held meetings for replacing the PM.

The KBC, Sadr and Iraqiya MPs failed to collect enough signatures to withdraw confidence from Maliki. Now they have laid all their hopes in an interrogation session for Maliki inside the House of Representatives over the allegations of constitutional violations.
