Sources: Total is interested in building a refinery capacity of 150 thousand b / d in Iraq

The French oil giant Total is interested in competing for the construction of a 150,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Nasiriyah oil refinery in Iraq, according to two sources.

Last year, the Iraqi Oil Ministry said PetroChina was also interested in the refinery project.

The original refinery project includes a capacity of 300 thousand barrels per day to be integrated with the development of the field of Nasiriyah oil.

Russian Lukoil and PetroChina gave initial attention to the integrated project.

Ali Ward Hammoud, general manager of the Dhi Qar oil company, told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in Berlin that the door to tender is still open and that interested international companies will be presented as refineries only.

He explained that Dhi Qar will now develop the field itself.
The field produces between 80 and 100 thousand barrels a day and plans to double the production capacity to 200 thousand barrels per day within the next three years. But production levels are expected to remain stable this year.
