Passengers at Baghdad Airport Can Take Weapons Aboard

BAGHDAD — An Iraqi lawmaker has warned about the incompetence of the security forces at the international airport of Baghdad where passengers take weapons aboard without the security noticing.

Adil Nouri, a spokesperson for the parliamentary committee of integrity, said on Saturday that there have been several cases of armed passengers or those having banned materials aboard.

He questioned the security procedures at the Baghdad airport which is given as a contract to G4S private company.

“The company has failed to fence the airport as there are still 52 gaps around the compound… The X-Ray devices also do not function perfectly as they have been working for 16 years,” the MP said.

He also warned that the international airliners would have the right to suspend their flights to Baghdad if the deficiencies are not immediately addressed.
