Shehadeh: Jordan will be at the forefront of Iraq's reconstruction assistance

KUWAIT: Jordan will be at the forefront of countries that will help Iraq in the reconstruction process, the minister of state for investment, Muhannad Shehadeh, said during his participation in the Kuwait International Conference on Iraq Reconstruction, which ended in Kuwait with the participation of representatives of 75 countries, UN agencies and companies.

He added that Jordan, based on its neighborly relations and geographical proximity and its knowledge of the Iraqi economy, will have its expertise and capabilities for the benefit of the Iraqi brothers, stressing Jordan's readiness to provide its required expertise, which would help the Iraqi brothers in the reconstruction.

Shehadeh expressed Jordan's ambition to have a stake in the reconstruction efforts by benefiting from the development and border areas of the Kingdom. He said that he had meetings with Iraqi businessmen living in Jordan, Iraq and abroad, as well as Western businessmen. To explore opportunities and the possibility of Jordan's contribution to reconstruction efforts.
He added that these meetings came in the belief of the possibility and importance of partnership between the two countries and contribute to the reconstruction efforts. He pointed out that the meetings dealt with the possibility of benefiting from Jordan as a logistical platform for reconstruction efforts in Iraq and benefiting from the development and border areas of the Kingdom.

The Jordanian delegation participated in the conference with a delegation headed by Minister of State for Information Affairs, Spokesman for the Government Dr. Mohammad Momani, who delivered a speech in which he stressed that Jordan will put at the disposal of the Iraqi brothers all the experiences that support the reconstruction efforts. He pointed out that the integration of the Jordanian and Iraqi economies, , Historical economic and social relations, and rich knowledge of the nature of Iraq's brotherly society are important factors that strengthen Jordan's pioneering role in Iraq's reconstruction.

The Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq was launched last Monday at the initiative of the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and with the participation of a number of donor countries and international and regional organizations, headed by five parties - the European Union, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Nations and the World Bank.
The conference aimed to mobilize momentum to alleviate the suffering of millions of displaced and affected Iraqi victims of the war on terror, as well as the reconstruction of areas liberated from terrorism and areas in need of assistance.
