Barzani’s policy : Baghdad is not ready to open the door for formal negotiations

The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, said on Sunday that the Iraqi government is not serious to open an official dialogue with the region to resolve the outstanding problems.

“The meeting between the two parties was important as we discussed the issue of dialogue with Baghdad,” Barzani told a news conference after a meeting of the two Kurdish Democratic parties and the National Union in Sulaymaniyah, noting that “the two parties agreed to unite in the face of the current challenges facing the region.”

Barzani added, “We live in a new political and economic stage in Kurdistan, especially with regard to the relationship between the region and Baghdad.”

“We have shown willingness to engage with Baghdad to resolve all the files since 2003 according to the constitution and so far.”

Barzani pointed out that “the relationship of the Kurdistan Democratic Party to the National Union has undergone development and prosperity,” noting that “anything that happens in Kurdistan should be in coordination between these two parties and the other parties.”

On the visit of the delegation of Kurdish parties to Baghdad, Barzani said that “it was supposed to include representatives of all parties and not only three,” adding that “going to Baghdad to negotiate should be based on the legitimacy of the basic representation in Kurdistan, be through the Parliament of the region, The territory is the subject of negotiation.

BGG ~ These clowns are acting as if they have some significant "hold card". They do not. They could never have entertained the dream of independence without oil rights and revenues that didn't belong to them.

It is highly likely Abadi forms a very strong alliance with the opposition in the Kurdish regions under the idea of jointly attacking the corruption problem in Iraq. This appears likely.
