BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The US embassy in Iraq announced on Wednesday the return of US airlines to fly over Iraq for the first time after 2014.

"The success of the Iraqi security forces in expelling friendly elements outside Iraqi territory does not only mean greater security for the Iraqi people, but also opens the door to greater economic resources for Iraq," said an embassy statement received by Iraq News.

"The US Federal Aviation Commission has decided that the threat to civil aviation is low enough for US airlines and postal codes companies to resume flights over Iraq for the first time since August 2014," the statement said.

"The Iraqi government will receive more than 70 million dollars of annual revenues from flying fees in Iraqi airspace," he said.

He pointed out that "these payments that were previously going to other countries," noting that "these funds from the income of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority and its ability to improve the air navigation system of the country." Finished
