The German Foreign Ministry donated € 30 million (approximately $ 34.8 million) to the Humanitarian Fund for Iraq, the Consolidated Fund for Assistance to Iraq, led by the Humanitarian Coordinator and managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

"We are deeply grateful to the German government and the German people for this very generous contribution," a statement from the UN mission in Iraq, UNAMI, was quoted by Human Rights Watch as saying.

"The fund is the backbone of the humanitarian operation in Iraq," she said, adding that "more than 125 projects targeting 4.2 million Iraqis in nine provinces received funding through the Fund in 2017 alone."

"The military campaign against Da'ash is over, but the humanitarian crisis is not over and there are more than 3.3 million displaced Iraqis, hundreds of thousands of whom live in camps and shelters, and they need help," Grandi said.

"In the coming months, we will work closely with the government so that people can return home safely, voluntarily and generously," she said.
