Agreement on disputes areas in Nineveh ends Erbil-Baghdad crisis

Baghdad-Erbil crisis has come to an end by reaching a peaceful agreement on the management of disputed areas in Nineveh Governorate, a military source confirmed Sunday.
In a statement, a commander in the Iraqi army said that the commanders of the Iraqi army and Peshmerga reached a peaceful agreement to end Baghdad-Erbil crisis over the Peshmerga-controlled districts in Nineveh

Under the agreement, co-management will be implemented in some districts while others will be peacefully handed over to the Iraqi Army he added.

On Saturday, it was reported that the Iraqi Army and Peshmerga forces commanders began a meeting at Nineveh's operations command headquarters

Talks were held between Kurdistan and Iraq on Saturday. Iraqi chief of staff General Othman al-Ghanimi said a noticeable advance had been achieved in talks with Kurdish fighters after days of clashes between both sides in Kirkuk and other areas.

The talks held in central Nineveh came a day after PM Haider Abadi had ordered a 24-hour truce

However, Ghanimi said there were still “sticking points” that need to be resolved

Tensions between Erbil and Baghdad over the future of Kurdistan have been high since the Kurds voted for independence in a September referendum.
