A categorical response from Abadi's office to the region's call for dialogue

[Ayna-Baghdad] The office of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi responded to the emergence of the Kurdistan Regional Government for dialogue on the management of border crossings and Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports.

The spokesman for the office Saad al-Hadithi said in a press statement that "the call for dialogue is linked to the foundations and constants and the denomination of their adoption will be recognition of the unity of Iraq and full national sovereignty and the adoption of the Constitution as a basis for any dialogue and recognition of the federal authority sovereign files such as oil trade and security of ports and borders and airports and the imposition of federal authority on them Issued by the decisions of the Council of Ministers. "

"Otherwise, we believe that the chances of dialogue are not available," he said. "The referendum on secession is illegal and unconstitutional and has not changed the position of Iraq."

Al-Hadithi pointed out that "the region still exports 600 thousand barrels of crude oil independently of Baghdad, and today we have the will and the tendency to impose the law on the sale of oil by the federal authority and will be applied with time limits."

He pointed out that "the accusations of the province to the federal government to besiege and starve the Kurdish people is a mix of papers and a source of international sympathy," stressing "the absence of a siege and remain Kurds Iraqi citizens and Baghdad, who are keen to manage the same region with regard to their security and interests.

He said that "the provincial government has risked and risked the future of Iraq to conduct the referendum."

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said Wednesday it was prepared to hold talks with the central government in Baghdad, according to the Iraqi constitution.

BGG ~ Though this article is from the 12th - it lays the foundation for Abadi's "federalist" arguments fairly.

IMO - both Barzani and Karim were plainly deceptive prior to this "referendum". They referred to it as "symbolic" and "non-binding"... whatever that meant.

Seems pretty binding, and a lot more than "symbolic" now. They aren't backing off the solidarity of the "vote" at this point, either. Maybe even to the point of war.

Which seems awful fishy since both of them have long over-stayed their term limits and have been selling oil that isn't even theirs to sell.
