Zarif of the Kurdish leaders: return to Talabani's approach, which was a symbol of the unity of Iraq

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed his hope that all officials in the Kurdistan region will return to the approach of the late President Jalal Talabani.
Zarif was the first guest to attend the funeral of the late president in Sulaymaniyah on Friday, where he placed a wreath on Talabani's body.

Zarif reiterated in a statement on the sidelines of the funeral ceremony, "the need to preserve the national unity and territorial integrity of Iraq."

"Iran is a permanent friend of the Iraqi people, including the Kurds in this country, and does not make strategic mistakes made by some individuals with the Iraqi Kurds," he said.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed his "hope that all officials in the Kurdistan region will return to Talabani's approach, which was a symbol of the unity of Iraq."
Zarif described Talabani as "a friend of Iran and a staunch opponent of Saddam's dictatorial regime and always sought to preserve Iraq's unity."
