Iraq: Lawmakers Campaign To Replace President Over Kurdish Referendum

The State of Law Coalition, a Shiite parliamentary bloc in Iraq, is campaigning to replace President Fuad Masum, a Kurd, with Vice President Nouri al-Maliki, BBC Monitoring reported Sept. 26. The bloc said it is pursuing the measure because of Masum's failure to clarify his position on the Kurdish independence referendum. Collected signatures will be presented during the parliament's session Sept. 27.
