The Trebil border crossing between Iraq and Jordan acquires special economic importance as it is one of the most important and vital border crossing points, which for the past period has had great effects on the Iraqi and Jordanian economies, causing losses in the commercial sector and trade movement between the two countries.

Abdullah Al-Bandarad, the opening of the crossing of the great achievement, which benefits the commercial sector and internal markets, pointing out that the opening will directly contribute to the impact on the prices of imported goods and reduced after it rose significantly during the closing period.

Al-Bandar said in his speech to Al-Sabah that this corridor will provide new revenues that contribute to reducing the negative effects that resulted from the sharp drop in oil prices and directly affected many economic activities of the oil producing countries, including Iraq, hinting that the opening of this vital crossing has effects Especially on the transport of goods and people between Iraq and Jordan and what it achieves Economic benefits to the beneficiary countries, being a vital link between Europe and the East on the one hand and the Gulf countries on the other.

The only border crossing was opened for Jordan, which was closed for more than three years after our security forces regained control of the main highway leading to Baghdad and the security forces completed all logistical and security measures to secure the road after defeating the terrorist organization Da'ash.


Economy of the two countries

Al-Bandar added that the opening of the border crossing again will activate the economy of the two countries and increase the work in important sectors have a significant impact on the economic movement daily, especially in the transport sector, which will witness a recovery and a new boom as the most useful corridor not only to Jordan and Iraq, but to the countries benefiting from this vital crossing Which will reduce the costs of transportation and ease of access of goods coming from the European side to Iraq and the Gulf States, indicating that opening the work again will reduce the losses borne by traders because of using other corridors relatively distant with the high costs of transport.


Export Recovery

Jordan hopes to revive the reopening of the crossing for exports to Iraq, which was previously the main export market for Jordan, receiving about one fifth of Jordanian exports worth 1.2 billion dollars a year, according to the International Monetary Fund.


Quantum leap

A joint Iraqi-Iraqi statement promised the reopening of the crossing "with a qualitative leap in the level of bilateral relations between the two countries through this vital artery in various humanitarian, economic and especially commercial fields, which will facilitate the movement of citizens and goods in both directions."

The joint statement noted that the timing of the reopening of the crossing coincides with "victorious victories by the heroic Iraqi forces in liberating the land and spreading state sovereignty and defeating the terrorist gang that led to the return of life to Iraqi cities and border areas."
