Rehabilitation of the Old Mosul Bridge has been initiated

The Ministry of Reconstruction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works announced on Wednesday the commencement of the rehabilitation and reconstruction project of the first Mosul Iron Bridge in Nineveh province as part of a project plan funded by the World Bank for the reconstruction of liberated areas.
The ministry said in a statement that “the engineering and technical cadres of Saad General Company – one of the formations of the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works – started the project of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the first Mosul Iron Bridge in Nineveh province for the Ministry of Roads and Bridges. World Bank for Reconstruction of Liberated Areas “.
The statement quoted the director general of the company as saying that “our company was assigned by the ministry to rehabilitate and reconstruct the first Mosul Iron Bridge in Nineveh province, which connects between Al Faisaliah and the left coast and Al Midan area in the right coast, 37.5 m per space and the total length of the bridge is 300 m.

He pointed out that “the project, which amounted to a contract cost of 2,980,300,000 Iraqi dinars, included lifting the destroyed and damaged areas of the bridge and the three spaces S1, S2, S3 from the left and right hand side with all its accessories outside the site of the bridge and re-processing, The left side of the bridge, the column headers for the entire bridge, the repair of the rest of the affected areas of the bridge, the installation of side corridors with fences for destructive spaces, the implementation of rollers, replacement of wood, iron and BRC sections, welding positions, screws and iron support cables (D20) thickness of 15 cm, installation of iron expansion joints, surface re-surfacing with surface asphalt coating, bridge coating with three layers (zinc, epoxy, urethane) and full surface design The bridge and the approaches with the lines of the continuous road lines and the lines of intermittent walkways with thermoplastic dyes, in addition to furnishing the bridge with the protective protective fence and the lighting system in full.
On December 11, 2016, the International Alliance aircraft bombed the old iron bridge linking the left coast to the right and destroyed it for the second time, separating the province of Nineveh into two parts and restricting the organization “Daash” then in its positions.
The oldest iron bridge is the oldest of the five Mosul bridges linking the two banks of the city, dating back to the English era, and was recently organized by the ISIS to seal them all in order to impede the progress of the Iraqi security forces.
