Al-Hadithi: The Iraqi government rejects any initiative to postpone the referendum or return to it
A spokesman for Prime Minister Saad al-Hadithi's press office said on Wednesday that the government rejected any initiative calling for postponing the referendum in the Kurdistan region and returning to it in the future.

Al-Hadithi said in a statement to the Information Agency that "the government's position is fixed on its refusal to hold a referendum on the Kurdistan region of Iraq," pointing out that "the referendum is contrary to the provisions of the Iraqi constitution and laws of the window."

"Any initiative that tries to postpone the referendum or return to it in the future will be rejected by the government," he said. "We are not looking for a temporary solution, but we are trying to find a durable solution that meets the aspirations of the Iraqi people."

On the initiative presented by President Fuad Masoum on the referendum, al-Hadithi said that "until now, the prime minister has not been formally informed of this initiative and has only spread in the media."

On Wednesday, President Fuad Masoum called for an initiative to cancel the referendum and resolve the outstanding problems between Baghdad and Erbil within three years.

The fourth paragraph of the first article of the initiative stated that "on the basis of this agreement, the regional government decides not to hold the referendum scheduled for 25 / 9/2017 and in case of failure to succeed in those negotiations are referenda to the referendum. "
