An official with the Kurdistan Regional Government concluded that the major oil companies new agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government without reference to the central government.

It quoted "Reuters" Ashti Hawrami, Minister of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government, "The Kurdistan expects to follow the footsteps of major oil companies Exxon Mobil in the next few months and conclude agreements with the region where the export of oil will resume despite the conflict with Baghdad."

Exxon became the first major oil company into the Kurdish region in mid-October and December when it signed an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Hawrami said at an energy conference in London on Tuesday, "The market is very prosperous in Kurdistan. We have a lot of big companies that are looking to participate in contracts for production and certainly mergers and acquisitions.

"So we expect in the next few months to see two or three major companies come and work in Kurdistan."

The Exxon deal, which includes six privileges of an illegal transaction in the eyes of the central government in Baghdad, said that any oil contracts signed with the Kurdistan Regional Government is illegal.
