Maliki and US Ambassador discuss political and security situation

Vice President Nuri al-Maliki discussed with US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Allen Silliman the latest developments in the political and security situation, as well as discussing the repercussions of the referendum issue in the Kurdistan region.
"Maliki stressed during the meeting the need to cancel the referendum or postpone it because it is unconstitutional and is not in the interest of the Iraqi people in general and not for the benefit of the Kurds in particular," warning the callers to the referendum of the serious repercussions that will be followed by this measure on the security, sovereignty and unity of Iraq .
He called on the leaders of the region to respect the desire of the Iraqi people rejecting the referendum as well as the positions of the international community, which came in line with popular and national aspirations.
