Abadi says he is prepared to intervene militarily if the Kurdistan referendum leads to violence

Prime Minister Haider Abadi, on Saturday, Baghdad's readiness to intervene militarily if the referendum in the Kurdistan region to violence.

According to channel "Russia Today," Abadi said in an interview with the agency "Associated Press", that Baghdad is ready to intervene militarily if the referendum led to violent results.

Abadi said the September 25 referendum would be a "dangerous escalation" and would violate Iraq's sovereignty.

Abadi agreed with his Turkish counterpart Ben Ali Yildirim on Friday to work together to push the Kurdistan region to withdraw from the referendum scheduled for September 25, while Yildirim considered the referendum decision a "wrong step".

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday the date of the meeting of the Turkish National Security Council to discuss the referendum on the Kurdistan region to be held on the twenty-fifth of this September, pledging to take a final decision after the meeting, while the referendum was considered "lack of political experience."

On Saturday, the United States issued a statement reiterating its lack of support for the referendum in the Kurdistan region, warning that it was distracting efforts to defeat the "preacher" in what it considered a "provocation and destabilization."

The British Foreign Office announced today its lack of support for the referendum in Kurdistan, warning of its impact on the stability of the Middle East, while proposed to hold unconditional talks between Baghdad and Erbil.
