Security alert in Baghdad to protect capital against expected risks

Security measures have been tightened in vital and significant areas in Baghdad to protect the Iraqi capital against any anticipated risks a security source revealed on Tuesday.

In press statements, the source said that security forces were deployed a few hours ago in Karrada, al-Mansour and Zayouna districts, and streets of Palestine and al-Harithiya.

The forces also have erected movable checkpoints in different districts until Eid Adha security plan is implemented he noted.

The deployment of forces will last for at least three or four days he added.

On Monday, a booby-trapped car was detonated in Alwa Jamila district in Sadr city in eastern Baghdad, killing and injuring 25 people.

A security source said on Monday that an explosive device hit positions of Sarayya al-Salam in al-Shatrah city in southern Iraq.

Moreover, a bomb, planted near stores in the district of al-Tarmia north of Baghdad, has gone off, injuring two civilians.
